So sanity prevailed on our return journey a month later and the Landcruiser needed a sedate ride over the Jardine on the punt!

The best way to experience this island paradise is on a live-aboard dive cruise: you can do as many as four dives a day and it works out good economically. All You Ever Wanted To Know About The Whitsunday Islands

Our site was backing onto the tiny Whitsunday airport, with planes and heli flights to and through the islands, and for sky-diving, from early morning till dusk. Fortunately not at night time! Having spent three years within the RAF back in home buying of National Service, it was an acquainted sound, and didn’t disturb me by any means, I heard no claims from other visitors sometimes.

The Town of Whitsunday includes Airlie Beach, Shute Harbour, and couple of other places, all in close closeness, so any park is handy to the island cruises and ocean
